You need to do two things: (a) research in-depth about your industry; and (c) learn about the process of creating a business plan. Doing your business plan will force you to learn more about your industry, market, marketing strategies and financials.

Here are some resources that can help you write your business plan:

First, learn as much as you can from others about this industry as well as get practical work experience yourself. Then you can begin to look at how others have written business plans (examples at http://www.bplans.com/samples/sba.cfm ). You can use professional template software (such as Business Plan Pro from Palo Alto Software and others) or download free Word documents at http://www.score114.org/business_library_1.html . Then go to http://www.score.org/findscore/ and find a SCORE office near you where you can get no-cost counseling from volunteer executives.
